May I introduce you to my current smoothie obsession, Turmeric – Kefir Smoothie! I can’t get enough of this delicious goodness, and you can probably guess why.

Turmeric, turmeric, turmeric!

I’m totally obsessed with this gorgeous and aromatic spice; it brings life to anything you add it to. If you are not already incorporating this magical spice into your diet, you need to start NOW.

If you follow my blog or Instagram, you might have noticed that lately I seem to be adding turmeric to pretty much everything. I’m all turmeric-loving, and super obsessed.

Turmeric has a million health benefits but that’s not the only reason why I’m in love with it. I mostly love it for it’s gorgeous yellow colour and uplifting exotic and earthy flavour.

Turmeric comes from an ancient root and has been used in Indian and Chinese medicine for centuries. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory, high in antioxidants, supports the immune system, aids in weight loss, and boosts mood.

Turmeric can be used fresh or in powder form. I love using fresh turmeric but it’s not always easy to find so I always have ground turmeric powder on hand. If you are new to turmeric start with using a small amount and increase little by little as you go. Beware, turmeric stains everything.

1 inch fresh turmeric = 1 tablespoon freshly grated turmeric = 1 teaspoon ground turmeric

Lets talk about the other superfood ingredient in this smoothie; Kefir.

Kefir is a fermented drink that can be made from different types of milk (dairy and non-dairy milk). Kefir contains friendly bacteria (probiotics) that helps to maintain healthy gut flora. To learn more about kefir and how to make it jump onto this post.

I love everything about this smoothie, the flavours marry really well together. When you have a bloated tummy or feeling sluggish, this is the smoothie to have.

Turmeric-Coconut Milk Kefir Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut milk kefir
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated turmeric (or 1 teaspoon ground turmeric)
  • 2 medjool dates
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smoothie. Enjoy
